Bodegas Castillo Viejo is a family-owned winery established by French Basque immigrants in Uruguay in 1910. Founded in 1927, it is now managed by the third and fourth generations of the Etcheverry family, ensuring a rich legacy of winemaking.

Your tour will be guided by the winery's skilled winemaker, who specializes in wine tourism and is a proud member of the Etcheverry family.

The experience begins in our experimental vineyard, where you can see eight grape varieties, with Tannat being the standout, as it is Uruguay's signature grape. Next, visit our Open Sky Museum, showcasing the evolution of winemaking machinery from the 1920s to today.

Continue to the fermentation plant, featuring 60 concrete vats with a total capacity of one million liters. Here, our oenologist will explain the fermentation process and the equipment used at each stage.

The tour concludes in the Sensory Analysis Room, where you can experience various aromatic patterns found in wine.

Finally, enjoy a tasting session in the historic Cava Subterranea, dating back to 1927. Sample one white wine and four red wines, paired with artisan empanadas and a selection of cheeses and cold cuts. This is a perfect way to appreciate the flavors of our wines and the craftsmanship behind them.

Excellent experience. Alejandra, the winemaker, very clear in her explanations, pleasant, makes the visit interesting and fun. Ana, one of the owners, a gentle and simple person, told part of the family history of the winery, which made the place and the moment something intimate and welcoming. Lunch and wine tasting varied, rich, generous. It is really worth a visit, highly recommended.

The best experience we had on our trip to Uruguay, we did the premium tour with lunch included, everything was perfectly harmonized. The wines are excellent, the explanations from the winemaker Raquel were of the highest level of content. We had the honor of meeting one of the owners of the winery, very friendly and attentive. Certainly a memorable experience!
