Location of Wine Régnié Region

The Régnié wine appellation is located in the north of the Rhône department, facing south and facing Ardières, a tributary of the Saône.

Terrior of Régnié Wine Region

The soil in the Regnié region is known to be brick-colored because of the bedrock. Here, at some of the highest altitudes in the region, vines are planted on coarse, sandy soils that are well-suited for Gamay grapes. The environment is permeable and drains freely. As you walk down the slopes, the proportion of clay with better water storage capabilities leads to a slightly more structured style of wine. The variety of terroirs found in vineyards allows growers to produce a range of wines. You can find every kind, from light and fresh to heavy and age-worthy wines. The climate in this region is continental as it is in much of Beaujolais, although it has a bit more of a Mediterranean influence. A foehn wind that often forms in the Beaujolais region of France brings warm, dry air through their vineyard, keeping the vines and leaves at a constant temperature that limits fungal diseases.

Régnié Wine Characteristics

Régnié is the youngest grand cru in Beaujolais with age-worthy vines from one to four years old. Régnié is made from only the Gamay grape, which makes the resulting wines approachable, aromatic and structurally sound. They are characterized by their fragrance of berries, the main ones being red fruits like strawberries and currants. Often found together with dark fruit drenched in creams, such as pineapple and figs, and violets.
