Ataraxia Wines: A Gem in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley

Ataraxia Wines is nestled in the picturesque Hemel-en-Aarde wine region, just a short drive from the charming coastal village of Hermanus. This elevated estate offers breathtaking views of lush vineyards and majestic mountains, making it a perfect spot for wine enthusiasts. Enjoy a glass of South Africa’s finest wines in their inviting tasting lounge, where the serene surroundings enhance the experience.
Renowned for producing outstanding wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their terroir, Ataraxia Wines has gained international acclaim.
The name "Ataraxia" is derived from Greek, signifying a state of tranquility free from worries. The winery is situated at the base of the towering Babylon Mountain Range, where owners Kevin and Hanli Grant transformed the 47-hectare Skyfield Farms into a thriving vineyard.

Vineyard Expansion and Unique Terroir

Located in the Walker Bay wine region, Ataraxia Wines benefits from the proximity of the South Atlantic Ocean, which creates an ideal climate for cool-climate grape varieties. Currently, the estate cultivates vines on twelve hectares, with plans to expand to an additional twelve hectares in the future. The vineyard thrives on some of the oldest soils on Earth, contributing to the distinct flavor profiles of their wines.

Signature Varietals: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir

Ataraxia Wines specializes in Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir, with each varietal carefully selected for their premium wine production. The estate’s commitment to quality ensures that only the best grapes are used, resulting in exceptional red and white wines that showcase the essence of the Cape South Coast.

Great wine estate to visit when touring the Hemel en Aarde. Great range of wines, with their top wines also being available to taste. Their Chardonnays are my favourites. Great service and the views are fabulous. A slightly arduous journey to get there but it’s worth it

Great. Unfortunately we didn't think the wines were good and too expensive. But that's subjective.

Lionel is an excellent host. Attentive, remembered each of our names. The wines are excellent. The standouts are the Pinot Noirs!

After a short drive on the gravel road, you come to a building on a small hill that is beautifully embedded in nature. The wine tasting takes place in this building, which resembles a church from the outside. Excellent white and red wines are served here. A great experience for the palate and the eyes!!

Great service and good wines. We thought the Serenity was excellent, perhaps even better than the marque Pinot noir, we drove back the next day to take some home with us. It’s a lovely setting, but be aware the drive from the main road is very off road.
