Handcrafted Wines with Tradition

Bodega San Juan has been a cornerstone of winemaking in Gran Canaria since 1912, spanning five generations of dedicated winemakers. Founded by Don Juan Rodriguez Quegles and his wife Carmen Millan Socorro, this family-owned winery is committed to producing high-quality artisanal wines. By minimizing machinery use, they ensure that each grapevine is carefully tended to by hand, employing organic farming methods. The passion and dedication of the team are evident in every bottle, showcasing the natural flavors of the grapes.

San Juan Winery and Wine Museum

In the early 20th century, Bodega San Juan gained recognition across Europe for its exceptional Canary wines. Don Juan's legacy includes the establishment of a wine museum, featuring antique machinery and tools used in winemaking during that era. After Don Juan's passing, his descendants continued the family tradition, producing wines and welcoming visitors to learn about their rich history.

Unique Canarian Grape Varieties

The winery features three spacious wine-press chambers, including a rare spindle press imported from Lyon. Spanning 2.41 hectares of vineyards on a 5-hectare estate, Bodega San Juan primarily cultivates Listan Negro grapes, along with smaller quantities of Negramoll, Listan Blanco, Malvasia, and Muscat. The winery combines traditional winemaking techniques with modern technology to craft a diverse range of red, white, and Muscat wines, ensuring a unique taste of the Canary Islands in every sip.

A group of friends and I had a wonderful visit to this winery. A very personal, familiar, clear and entertaining visit. You can see the love that the owners of the estate transmit and the desire to maintain a tradition forged over many years by their ancestors. The visit ends with a tasting of various wines and local products.

We were there spontaneously outside of the regular viewing times and were still able to buy a few bottles of the delicious wine with the help of the super nice Carmelo. Next time we'll plan to visit for a viewing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Maria, an experience that we would not mind repeating. We really liked the story that Maria told us during the tour. The old installation of the winery about how the family made wine and then the new part where the owner Cristina is producing the wine today. And to finish, of course, they gave us the wine to taste. THANK YOU MARIA FOR THE EXPERIENCE.

Nice visit. An interesting place. A must-see to learn about part of the island's history. The explanations given by our guide, Maria, were very good and she was very professional and attentive at all times. From there you can visit the Bandama caldera with spectacular views.
