The Winery

Bodegas Monje is nestled in the stunning landscape of Tenerife, specifically in "La Hollera" within El Sauzal, offering breathtaking views of Mount Teide. The Monje family has been dedicated to winemaking since 1750, blending traditional oak barrels with modern maceration techniques. This harmonious approach results in distinctive red, white, and rosé wines that pair beautifully with the rich gastronomy of the Canary Islands. The winery also hosts various cultural and gastronomic events, reinforcing its commitment to wine tourism and community engagement. The vineyard of Bodegas Monje thrives in rocky yet fertile soil, making it an ideal location for grape cultivation. The Monje family proudly continues a five-generation legacy in the art of winemaking.

Winemaking Excellence

The atmosphere at Bodegas Monje is infused with a deep-rooted passion for wine production. Skills and techniques have been passed down through generations, ensuring that each bottle reflects the family's dedication. The warmth and care of the Monje family are evident in the aroma and flavor of their wines. They combine traditional aging methods with modern technology to create exceptional wines that tell a story.

A Prime Location for Quality Wine

Situated 600 meters above sea level, the winery benefits from mineral-rich soil that supports grapevines aged nearly 50 years. While the steep terrain presents challenges for mechanization, the gentle sea breeze and abundant sunlight create a unique microclimate ideal for high-quality wine production. The vineyard employs a “low vineyards” system to facilitate some mechanized tasks. Notable grape varieties such as Listán Negro, Listán Blanco, Negramoll, and Tintilla flourish here, contributing to the wines' rich aromas and flavors.

Quality Wines with Authenticity

The wines from Bodegas Monje showcase the diverse grape varieties native to the region. Their red wines are particularly popular, characterized by vibrant colors and complex flavors. The fruity aromas and crisp taste reflect the unique terroir of Tenerife. Bodegas Monje produces a limited selection of wines, ensuring meticulous control over bottling and market release, which guarantees quality and authenticity.

The dry white wine we had was very good. The views from the terrace are magnificent, from the Costa de Acentejo to Puerto de la Cruz and even Mount Teide.

Excellent choice. In addition to the unbeatable views of Teide and the north face of the island, the food was delicious. They have a very varied menu and some good wines to accompany it. They also offer a guided tour of the winery with tasting of their products and wine tasting. The service was great, they served us quickly and attentively. We will definitely return.

Our visit was very pleasant. The variety, quality, and quantity of wine were perfect. The lady who explained the wines to us speaks excellent English. However, the tasting room needs to be renovated, and the souvenirs are too expensive.

We booked a tasting and a tour. Don’t go here if you expect a French Chateau with Bordeaux wines. However, do go if you want a local wine tasting with amazing sunset views and surprisingly taste wines with flavours most people are not used to. The tour was excellent and one of the best I’ve had so far (had wine tours in Argentina, Italy and Slovenia) A must go if you visit Tenerife!
