The winery has origins in Germany and projects Douro and Port in the United Kingdom

Burmester since 1750

The Burmester wine brand is a part of the Sogevinus name and has been in wine production since 1750. The company takes the history and tradition of winemaking in the area and projects it in a sophisticated and peaceful way. Soon the popularity began increasing, and the brand became famous worldwide under the prestigious brand name of Port. Henry Nash and John Burmester established the estate and started producing wines here in a traditional yet silky way.

Sustainability

The company is totally committed to practicing sustainable organic viticulture techniques at the vineyards and in the cellar. Energy is consumed diligently, and effort is made to ensure that resources are preserved and used as much as required. Plants are grown between each row of vines as this favors the natural ecosystem in Duoro. This protects and preserves the wildlife and natural beauty of the region. Touriga Nacional is the main grape here used to make red and white wine.

Historic cellar at the winery

The historic cellar has a lot of traditional stuff, including one of the oldest vats in the group, made in 1883. The historical vintage cellar is open to guests alongside an ageing warehouse. An ancient machinery museum features ancient machines and tools used for making wine. Guests can hang out at the terrace and take in the immense natural beauty of the surroundings. Wine tasting and tours are in place for visitors at the estate.
