Tradition Passed Down from Mother to Daughter

Château du Payre, nestled in Cardan, east of Bordeaux along the Garonne River, has a rich history dating back to 1881. This family-owned winery has been passed down through five generations of women, with Valérie Labrousse currently at the helm as owner and manager. Her dedication to the craft continues the legacy of quality winemaking.

Distinctive Characteristics of Château du Payre Wines

Spanning 35 hectares, the vineyard features diverse soil types, including sandy clay, clay loam, and gravel clay, all of which contribute to the exceptional quality of their wines. The region's climate, characterized by humid summers and mild winters, enhances the unique flavors of their offerings. The vineyard cultivates a variety of grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec for red and rosé wines, while Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle are used for white wines. With a commitment to sustainable practices, Château du Payre is certified by Terra Vitis, ensuring that their vineyards are well-maintained for future generations.

Wine Tours and Tastings in a Historic Setting

Château du Payre welcomes both local and international visitors for guided tours led by Valérie herself. Guests can explore the vineyard, winery, barrel cellar, and bottling room, culminating in a delightful wine tasting experience. The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. For those wishing to extend their stay, the winery offers charming guest rooms adorned with vintage-style furnishings, each reflecting the winery's wine-themed ambiance, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the world of Château du Payre.

We were hosted and visited the castle as part of a wine tour with friends. We were a group of eight and despite our numbers, the quality of our welcome and meals were good. Thanks again to the castle team for this course and the pleasant stay.

What a great experience at Château du Payre. We were welcomed by the host Valérie Labrousse, a passionate and exciting woman. Organic has been his hobby for years. What is she looking for? Produce balanced wines, think outside the box by being innovative and respecting the environment. She led the tour of her estate, which has been passed down through five generations of women. We then continue to a nice tasting on the way to the vineyards and the cellars. We then settled into our very large room and continued with a good home-cooked meal. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we could not enjoy the beautiful outdoor area. We sincerely thank her for her welcome and will happily recommend her products to those around us. Bravo for his work!

We enjoyed our stay at the estate at the end of September. The visit and the explanations of wine production were very interesting and the tasting allowed us to discover and appreciate wines that we would not have tasted on our own. As for accommodation and food, a truly relaxing moment: the room is very comfortable, quiet and nicely decorated, as is the living/dining room; and the food is very good, prepared with good products and accompanied by a very good wine! Thank you to Valérie and the other people in the area for making this beautiful holiday possible for us. Whether for a visit with tasting or a more complete stay, you will be delighted by the welcome and will probably discover a new way of enjoying wine.

A very nice time spent at Château du Payre. We were able to enjoy a complete tour of the farm, from the vineyards to the cellar and bottling, followed by a pleasant tasting that allowed us to discover a beautiful selection of wines: Crémant, Rosé, White Wine, Red Wine and Belle. Discover the wine by the glass. The setting is very pleasant and perfect for a night in a B&B with a simple and efficient breakfast to end the stay. Thank you to the very welcoming hostess who introduced us to her vineyard and her beautiful family history! I recommend!
