Château Les Chaumes sits only five kilometers away from Blaye and the splendid Vauban Citadel, on a hillsides that overlooks the Gironde River. The vineyard covers an area of 23 hectare with a terroir mostly composed of clay-limestone soils. The major grape varieties grown are Merlot, Cabernet, and Malbec. On average, Château Les Chaumes produces 125,000 bottles a year.
The Wines of Château Les Chaumes
Red and rosé wines are vinified and kept in stainless steel tank to preserve the light and fruity flavours. The best reds of the Château Les Chaumes winery are matured for 12 to 18 months and develop spices and vanilla notes. The wines are fruity and pleasant, reflecting the unique characteristics of the terroir.
Wine Experiences at Château Les Chaumes
Oenologist Anne Parmentier warmly and happily welcomes visitors to the winery. Visit Château Les Chaumes for an introduction to wine-tasting, Anne will help you develop your wine knowledge and tell you all her winemaking secrets. Book one of the workshops to learn about the production of barrels and how they influence the aromas and flavour of wines. On the first Sunday of each month, enjoy a guided tour, tasting and picnic in the vineyard. Visit and taste the wines of Château Les Chaumes everyday without advanced booking.
