A special place in a unique environment.
A farmhouse, recovered vineyards, a small winery, one-of-a-kind project.
Among the valleys of Bisaura, stands firm and splendid the thousand-year-old Mas Clarella.
An unbeatable environment, where you can enjoy nature, history, and our own vineyards among the Pre-Pyrenees mountains.
The farmhouse is completely restored, a beautiful, unique space with an elegant character.
The vineyard is considered "replanted" because there were vineyards in Clarella in the past. The last document found mentioning the production of wine is dated from 1466.
Efforts are currently being made to consolidate its firm and stable presence in Clarella, as there are still centuries-old vines in several important estates throughout the valley.
In 2013, the property was transferred to the Call family, who renovated and modernized the house and added a vineyard and a winery.
At the beginning it wasn’t very clear that a project like this would be successful in this area because there is no one else producing wine near us and the weather conditions are very different from the areas where wine is typically produced; thus, a big risk was taken when deciding to carry out this idea.
In 2015, the vineyards were replanted on high-altitude terraces, and a winery was built. The estate cultivates a total of 5 hectares (12 acres) of Tempranillo, Macabeo (Viura), Riesling, Pinot Noir, and other experimental varieties.
Right now, 9 references of wine are being produced, composed of 4 whites, 3 reds and 2 rosées.
The altitude and the weather conditions that take place in the Pre-Pyrenees are very different from the most popular zones where typical Catalan wines are produced, like Empordà, Priorat, Tarragona...
Clarella’s wines are:
- More fresh
- More pairable
- More aromatic
- Less alcoholic
- More acidic
- More storable
All these characteristics, make Clarella’s wines unique and with a strong personality that, with every sip you take, you can feel the scenery and the uniqueness of this place.
In 2025 two of our wines, were awarded in the "Mondial des vins Extrêmes", a world championship for mountain wines that takes place in Italy.
Our white and red reserve, Francina and Jaume, were awarded with gold medals, and for us it’s very rewarding, as it means that we are doing a very good job in the wine production, considering that we have only been prducing wine for 6 years.
Mas Clarella is a rural farmhouse, where only three different families have lived . One of them stayed for 1,000 years.
Originally, the Pujalons were the ones who built the house and started the business. When the little daughter of the Pujalons, Francina, married a worker of the house, Jaume Clarella, the name of the house changed and became known as Mas Clarella, but technically, the family was still the same one.
Thirteen generations later, in 1977, when the last member of the Clarellas died, a family from Barcelonae Barrados, bought the house. They used it as a second residence for a few years until 2013, when the current owner purchased the house from them with a clear goal to build a winery and restore all the history of this place.
The fact that nowadays we can still explain a significant part of the history of the house and we have many original documents is due to the fact that only three different families have lived here, two of which have been here for the last 50 years. We consider ourselves very lucky to preserve many original aspects of the house and documents from many years ago.
During the remodeling, many discoveries were made, including the main entrance of the original house, which had been hidden within an interior wall for centuries. The Calls, like the Pujolons, Clarella, and Barrado families before them, will continuously strive to beautify and elevate the estate as mere passing visitors on this long and fantastic journey.
Nowadays, several tours take place every week in Clarella, surrounding oneself with vineyards, experiencing the aroma, observing the changing colors depending on the season and the ripening stage of the fruit, and visiting the temples where this precious liquid is created and preserved. Best of all is being able to do a tasting right at the winery.
This is what wine tourism is all about.
At Clarella, tours are organized to share and explain the project and history of the estate.
They include a visit to the vineyards, a tour of the house, and a wine pairing tasting with locally sourced products. These tours last approximately 2 hours.
