Heinrichshof Winery is nestled on a west-facing steep slope in the picturesque Mosel region of Germany. This unique location creates a diverse climate, balancing cool and warm temperatures throughout the day. The steep terrain enhances solar exposure and promotes quicker drying after rainfall, which is crucial during the ripening phase, reducing the risk of diseases and rot in the grapes. The vineyard features small terraces, and all cultivation is done by hand, ensuring meticulous care. With vines planted in 1939, these over 80-year-old plants yield wines of remarkable quality, complexity, and longevity, thanks to the high mineral content of the quartz-rich bedrock.

Winemaking Practices at Heinrichshof

At Heinrichshof, winemaking is approached with precision and care. Each wine range undergoes distinct vinification and maturation processes, yet all share a commitment to manual cultivation. Since taking over in 2019, young winemaker Heiner Oberrauch has embraced sustainable agriculture, focusing on naturally produced wines that reflect the unique characteristics of each vintage and grape variety. The vineyards are cultivated biodynamically, and all processing and bottling occur in the cellar, which is ingeniously integrated three levels below the vineyard. This hands-on approach ensures that every bottle captures the essence of the Mosel terroir.
