Geierslay Winery – A Legacy of Winemaking in Mosel
Nestled along the picturesque banks of the Mosel River, Geierslay Winery is renowned for its steep slope vineyards and stunning rock formations. For 19 generations, the Kilburg family has been dedicated to crafting exceptional wines, making them one of the oldest winemaking families in the region with a history spanning over 750 years. Their wines beautifully reflect the unique terroirs and landscapes of Mosel.
A Rich History Since 1465
The story of Geierslay began in 1465 when Johann Von Kilburg took over his father-in-law’s vineyard. Today, the 19th generation of the Kilburg family continues this proud tradition, producing a diverse range of wines, including exquisite reds, whites, rosés, and high-quality sparkling and dessert wines, all sourced from the Wintrich appellation. Their award-winning Riesling wines have gained international acclaim.
Respecting Nature with Diverse Vine Varieties
Geierslay Winery is committed to sustainable practices, cultivating a variety of grapevines such as Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc, along with Pinot Gris and Merlot. The grapes are hand-harvested, ensuring that only the finest bunches are selected for winemaking. After careful pressing, fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, with many wines produced from 50-year-old vines, resulting in rich aromas and pronounced minerality.
The winery features an impressive collection of oak barrels in its cellar, where the wines undergo active aging and refinement. Max and Stefan Kilburg have introduced innovative techniques while honoring traditional methods, ensuring that each bottle reflects the winery's storied heritage.
