The Renowned Wine Region of Priorat

The history of winemaking in Priorat began in 1194 with the arrival of the Carthusian Order in Escaladei, a pivotal moment marked by the land granted by King Alfons I the Chaste.

Over the centuries, Priorat has evolved into a prestigious wine region, celebrated globally for its distinctive wines that emerge from unique soils and breathtaking landscapes, showcasing what is often referred to as heroic viticulture.

La Conreria d’Scala Dei

Founded in 1997 by three friends—a winemaker, an educator, and a priest—La Conreria d’Scala Dei is nestled in this historic landscape. Their shared passion for winemaking led to the creation of this exceptional winery.

Our vineyards span 52 hectares across Priorat, ranging from 200 to 700 meters above sea level. This diverse elevation, along with varying soils and microclimates, allows us to cultivate a wide array of grape varieties, resulting in high-quality wines. We are committed to organic practices that honor our environment, producing wines that truly reflect the essence of Priorat.

A small, well-organized winery. They offer guided tours where they explain a bit of the history and the winemaking process. At the end, they offer a small tasting. Oh, and during the tour, they let you try the wine at different stages before bottling.

Two friends and I took the guided tour through the wine production facility 'La Conreria' in Spanish. Small and nice! Well explained, open to all questions and a good overview of the wines produced. We also took some wine home with us afterwards. The room where the tasting takes place has a great view and you can take great photos on the terrace.
