A Small but Very Exclusive Production of Wines
Le Strie Winery only has about one hectare of land for cultivating grapes. The grow Nebbiolo grapes which are the common grapes grown in this region. Other heirloom grape varieties such as Rossola, Pignola and Brugnola are also grown. The small area of vineyard amounts to only 60 quintals per hectare grapes for wine production. This ensures the quality of wine to be high. From the grapes, they make red wines. They have three wines in production made using traditional methods. Their Valtellina Superiore DOCG and Sforzato DOCG are crushed, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats and then are matured in large oak barrels. The other wine produced by the winery is the Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio IGT which are fermented and matured in stainless steel vats.
