A Legacy of Winemaking in Muntenia

Licorna Wine House, with its rich history, has been a cornerstone of winemaking in Romania since its inception. The cellars, which were revitalized in 2013, have roots that trace back over a century. The story begins with Nicolae Nicolau and his wife Elena, who built the cellar after a vivid dream involving the 16th-century ruler Constantin Brancoveanu. He envisioned a wine as dark as the cockerel in his yard. Today, Licorna Wine House continues to produce this unique black wine, honoring the legacy of the Nicolau family and their original manor, where wines were traditionally aged.

The Historic Manor

Within the walls of the manor, stories of winemaking secrets linger. The wine matures in 80 barriques made from various oak species, alongside large wooden barrels of 2000 L and 3000 L, which contribute to the wine's smooth, velvety texture.

Modern Winemaking Facilities

Licorna Wine House boasts a state-of-the-art winemaking center with a processing capacity of 150 tons of grapes. While the focus is primarily on red wines, high-quality white grape varieties are also carefully crafted in French oak barrels, ensuring exceptional flavor development. The bottling process, capable of producing 1000 bottles per hour, adheres to strict hygiene standards, with wines aged for a minimum of two months before release.

The storage facility is designed for optimal aging, with two compartments that can hold up to 100,000 bottles, maintaining ideal temperature and humidity conditions.

Craftsmanship and Expertise in Every Bottle

At Licorna Wine House, the winemaking process begins with meticulous care in the vineyard and continues through to the final product. Each step is executed with precision, ensuring that the wine reflects the unique terroir of Muntenia. The combination of sunlight, rainfall, and soil quality plays a crucial role in the creation of their wines.

The name Licorna, inspired by the mythical unicorn, symbolizes purity and balance. While unicorns may be elusive, the wines produced here embody similar qualities. The range includes SERAFIM, LICORNA, BON VIVEUR, ANNO, and Dessert Wines, each offering a unique tasting experience that lingers in the memory of wine enthusiasts.

It is already a habit that I drink my favorite Sauvignon Blanc on Friday nights. An excellent wine that I discovered at Pescaria lui Matei and to my surprise I also found this wine in the supermarket. Their wine is super fine, it is a pleasure to enjoy it when I drink their drink. Maybe I can visit them at the winery. Congratulations for what you have created.

Located in the famous Dealu Mare wine region, Licorna Winehouse is a relatively small winery, but it produces high quality wines, made with attention to detail and respect for the terroir. It is characterized by elegant, complex and well-structured wines. Strengths: ✅ Artisanal winemaking - Limited production, focus on quality and expressiveness of the varieties. ✅ Ripe and balanced wines - The winery places emphasis on aging in oak barrels to obtain more complex wines. ✅ The reinterpretation of the Romanian varieties Feteasca Neagră and Tâmiaoasa Românească are vinified in a modern and refined style. ✅ Premium wine tourism experience - Carefully organized tastings in an elegant atmosphere with in-depth presentations of the winery's wines. Recommended wines: • Serafim Fetească Neagră – A full-bodied barrel-aged wine with aromas of dried plums, chocolate and sweet spices. • Serafim Sauvignon Blanc – A fresh, mineral white wine with hints of citrus and white flowers. • Anno Fetească Neagră – One of the winery's most appreciated wines, complex and elegant, with excellent aging potential. Conclusion: Crama Licorna is an excellent choice for those looking for high-quality, balanced and expressive wines. It is a winery that values quality and innovation, offering wines with a strong character and a well-defined identity. Ideal for wine lovers and for those who want to discover modern reinterpretations of Romanian varieties!

We bought some fantastic red and white wines here a week ago, which we were able to try beforehand at Demphie's on the Orange Valley campsite. The owner was very friendly and let us try different wines, even though it was early in the morning. We are currently drinking his Anno 5 Merlot in Germany and are delighted :) hopefully you will be exporting to Germany soon, please let us know.

The place where tradition and modernity meet. Right at the entrance we were greeted by Tarzan, the self-proclaimed owner of the winery. A short tour of the winery took us from the new processing hall to the old cellar where the red wine rests in bariqs. In the warehouse, despite the heat outside, the temperature is optimal for wines. As a note for those who want to visit the vineyard: follow the signs in Mizil. Google Maps is not the best guide in this case.
