THE STORY OF THE SIRK FAMILY:
The Story of Marcus Winery: A Tradition Built with Love Since 1888
Our story begins in 1888, when Ignac Sirk left his native village of Višnjevik and found love in Biljana. That same year, Anton was born—the first Sirk child born in Biljana—planting the seed of our priceless family tradition.
For over 130 years, our farm has been marked by dedication to viticulture and a deep connection between family values and nature. Generations of the Sirk family have carefully nurtured the land in the heart of Goriška Brda, preserving heritage and refining their knowledge of winemaking.
Today, the Sirk winery is in the capable hands of father Marko and son Miha. Marko leads the farm with his long-standing experience and knowledge, while Miha, representing the new generation, brings fresh ideas and modern approaches to the vineyards. His passion for winemaking is reflected in exceptional wines that merge tradition with innovation.
Miha has taken on the responsibility of wine production and, in recent years, has revitalized the farm’s practices. The use of sustainable methods, precise selection of the best grapes, and meticulous winemaking allow each bottle to tell the story of our family and our land.
Our vineyards in Brda, bathed in Mediterranean sun and caressed by gentle breezes, give our wines a unique character. The focus is on quality—every drop carries the taste of a heritage nurtured by the Sirk family since 1888.
At the heart of the village of Biljana, this is more than just a farm; it’s a story of family, a love for nature, and a dedication to excellence. Every bottle captures the harmony of tradition and modernity, inspired by Marko and Miha.
Come visit us and taste our story. Let our love for wine fill your glass.
Our winery, now producing 10,000 bottles annually, is a tale of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of perfection in every detail. In the very heart of Goriška Brda, we craft wines that reflect our land, our climate, and the experience shaped through generations.
Our selection includes two premium sparkling wines made using the traditional method. In addition to sparkling wines, our cellar also produces fresh white wines known for their minerality, verticality, and pronounced varietal character. Our Rebula, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia, and Pinot Gris are true reflections of nature—mineral-driven, fresh, and vibrant, with a fine acidity that grants them longevity and the ability to retain freshness over time. Each of these wines expresses the uniqueness of its variety and the terroir that allows it to shine in all its beauty and complexity.
Alongside our white wines, we also offer a red blend made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This blend is a deep ruby color. The bouquet is youthful and fairly intense, featuring ripe green and red peppers, dark ripe cherries, vanilla, and smoke. The Cabernet Franc adds an abundance of spicy notes. Dry, full-bodied, with moderate acidity—mature and flavorful.
Our winery is not just a place for producing wine; it is a place where tradition is respected, but innovation is embraced. Every wine that leaves our cellar is the result of careful work in the vineyard and the winery, an innovative mindset, and deep respect for natural cycles. We craft wines that express our passion, our heritage, and our ongoing desire to exceed the expectations of our customers.
