A Family Tradition of Wine and Olive Cultivation in Slovenia
A Rich Heritage in Winemaking
Located in the serene village of Šmarje near Koper, Santomas Winery is nestled in the picturesque heart of Slovenian Istria. This family-owned winery, run by Ludvik Nazari Glavina, boasts a long-standing tradition of winemaking that has been passed down through generations.
Commitment to Istrian Tradition
Ludvik’s philosophy centers on honoring Istrian cultural heritage and fostering a sustainable relationship between agriculture and the environment. In the early 1990s, he expanded the winery by investing in new vineyards and olive groves, bringing the total area to 20 hectares of vineyards and 4 hectares of olive trees. The focus is on cultivating indigenous Istrian grape varieties, ensuring the wines reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Experience the Essence of Santomas
The Santomas brand was established in 1997, inspired by a historical reference in the 1832 book “Topographie de toutes les vinobles,” which highlighted the delightful wines from the Koper area known as Santomas. The winery features an oenological laboratory, a wine warehouse, and a wine bank, all designed with respect for Istrian architectural traditions and landscape aesthetics.
At Santomas Winery, you can find a variety of grape types, including Malvazija, Refosk, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The winery produces a diverse range of high-quality wines, including red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines, each crafted to showcase the rich flavors of the region.
