The Pico Island Wine Cooperative, established in 1949, stands as the largest and oldest wine producer in the Azores. This cooperative was born from the dedication of local producers who aimed to revive noble grape varieties and the traditional vineyard culture. A simple tasting, but sufficient enough to try up to six different types of wine. The person who led the tasting was very pleasant and answered all questions and explained each of the wines. I'm not giving it 5 stars because you can't visit the winery. I think a quick explanation of the production area would be a plus to complete the tasting.

The winery collects most of the grapes produced on the island. The managers of the Cooperative are very active and seem to have clear ideas about their growth path, which also includes the complete renovation of the structure next year. The wines offered are good and the organization is professional.

Let's stay at the winery in October 2024 and do a wine tasting. It was explained to us at the origin of each species as well as the breeds of the Açores. We enjoyed very much tasting two 5 wines. All very harmonious and balanced. A word of gratitude to Maria who answered all of our questions.
