A Rich Historical Legacy

Quinta da Boeira has a storied past that dates back to 1850, deeply rooted in the wine culture of Portugal. Founded by Manuel da Rocha Romariz, an emigrant who returned from Brazil in the early 19th century, the winery quickly established itself as a reputable name in the wine industry. With his extensive knowledge of the Brazilian market, Romariz registered as a Wine Port exporter in 1850, using the brand name BOEIRA among others.

The quality of Quinta da Boeira's wines earned the trust of consumers and distributors alike, leading to a strong presence in various markets, including Portugal, England, France, and Brazil. Today, the winery continues to honor its rich heritage while producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Porto and Douro regions.

Visitors to Quinta da Boeira can expect not only exquisite wines but also a celebration of art and culture, making it a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and travelers alike.

An elegant tasting room with a range of ports to suit your budget, starting at 3 for €10. The personal explanation on port types and production was so interesting. A surprise was the lovely garden, the restaurant, the HUGE “bottle”. Port barrels and an impressive collection of models of old sailing ships was fascinating. For a quieter, more personal visit to a port “cave” this is the place.

It's a bit far from the center, but it's worth it. We tried two ports, a white and a red (tawny), both very good. We would have liked a more detailed explanation of the tasting, as I had to ask around to learn more about them. They also have an interesting exhibition room with model ships from the period. It's a shame we couldn't take any of them home (flight issues).

The visit is not guided, you go on your own, but during the tasting they explain things very well.
