Authentic Riesling Wines Born in Beautiful Thörnicher Ritsch

On the steep slopes of Thörnicher Ritsch, there exists a centuries-old family wine estate in Moselle, Ludwig Brothers Winery, well-known for its Riesling wines. The company owns ten hectares of vineyards, where red and white grape varieties live in harmony, enjoying the pedo climate and fertile terroirs. Since 2003, Weingut Gebr. Ludwig has become a certified biodynamic winery, producing organic white, dessert, and sparkling wines.

History of Ludwig Brothers Winery Goes Back to 400 Years

A document from 1628 confirms that the Ludwig family ancestors owned a vineyard in the 17th century. Later during the post-war period, the name Gebrüder Ludwig came into the picture. Thomas Ludwig, the current owner of Weingut Gebr Ludwig, remembers when his grandfather operated the winery, along with his brothers, in the 1950s. Later in 1964, his father took over the winery and changed all the operations. Thomas joined the family business in 2000, and in 2005, he acquired the estate, supported by his wife, Meike.

Quality is Created in the Vineyard, Not in the Cellar

Eighty percent of the vineyards are planted with Riesling grapes, a flagship vine of Weingut Gebr. Ludwig. Some other white varieties include Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. The company also grows fruity reds, such as Frühburgunder and St. Laurent. Thomas follows traditional and environment-friendly methods both in the vineyards and the cellar. You will find the right amount of finesse, sweetness, and acidity in the wines, with salty minerality as a buffer.
