Rich History at Schlöder-Thielen
The Schlöder-Thielen winery in the Longuich region of Mosel is a pure Riesling winery which houses a historic Old Longuich Castle and has more than 650 years of history. The castle was built by Platt von Longuich and still serves as the main operation building for the wine company. In recent years, the castle has undergone several restorations that were necessary to preserve the historic building. In 2009, the castle was covered with a new roof of slate while the old structure was preserved as it is. The castle has a great atmosphere for wine tasting and hosting guests and visitors.
Combination of Tradition and Technology
The winery has a perfect combination of traditional methods and modern technology to implement its winemaking philosophy. Vineyards are cultivated with a lot of care and concern with the aim of getting top quality Riesling grapes to make the best white and sparkling wines. The vineyards are located on steep slopes of Longuich and Mehring. Cultivation takes place while keeping in mind the health of nature and environment.
Perfect Work at the Winery
The best grapes are handpicked out of the yield and taken to the cellar. There is an individual expansion of the must in the old castle’s cellar. Wines are fermented under controlled conditions while ageing takes place in traditional oak barrels. Apart from wines, the company also makes spirits. Visit the estate for a great wine tasting session in the old castle and learn more about the history and philosophy of the winery.
