Azienda Agricola Colja Jozko di Vesnaver Noris

A few km from the sea and Slovenia, in the small village of Samatorza , the Colja Jožko farm produces and sells wines obtained from native vines, aged in a beautiful cellar dug into the rock, cured meats and vegetables. The place is ideal for visiting the Trieste Karst , walking in the woods, cycling or MTB.

Company history

For centuries, the Colja family has owned and worked this land, producing wine and trying to make this arid karst soil so difficult to cultivate fertile.

Vines and other fruit and vegetables have always grown on this property; but it was only in 1990, when Jožko began managing the company, that the modernization work began by introducing the specialized vineyard, using new planting, mechanization and winemaking systems and orienting wine production towards a concept of quality.

The new cellar is built by digging into the rock and the replanting of the old vineyards begins, replacing the old pergola with the Guyot system.

Production focuses on the use of grapes from native vines, respecting the Karst tradition, and thus the two white wines Vitovska and Malvasia and the red Terrano are born.

2008 saw the opening of the Agriturismo as a restaurant . The cuisine is typical of the area and the company's products are used in the preparation of the dishes. Cured meats and wines of its own production are also offered.

2015 sees the opening of the Chambers . Guests can stay overnight in one of the solutions with bathroom , TV and heating offered by the company, for a total of 13 beds.

Company philosophy

The Colja company has handed down wines from native varieties and traditional local dishes for generations: in fact, it has at heart the valorization of the Karst territory and its specificities.

The company also keeps one eye on tradition and one on the future, remaining linked to the history of its land, but introducing various improvements over the years to aim for wines of ever higher quality.
