Canus – A Journey into the Heart of the Eastern Hills of Friuli
On Colle di Gramogliano, in the Eastern Hills of Friuli, are the historic vineyards, the cellar, and the house designed to welcome visitors, offering tours and tastings.
The vineyards, located exclusively on hillsides, are cultivated with particular attention to care and health. In the cellar, no artificial means are used, but rather a conscious use of experience is relied upon.
The company's philosophy is clear: the wines must reflect the territory and express it over time. At the heart of the production are native and local grape varieties—Ribolla, Tocai, Refosco, Pignolo—along with several varieties historically acclimatized to Friuli, such as Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Merlot.
The Gramogliano hills are of Eocene origin and consist of sedimentary rocks composed of sandstone, limestone, and dolomite, known locally as "ponca." Viticulture has been practiced in this area since the time of ancient Roman centuriations.
Another important company nucleus is located in Prepotto, an area particularly suited to grape growing, where some of the most significant native varieties are grown, including Ribolla, Tocai, Refosco and Schioppettino.
The vineyards are tended with respect, passion, and rigor. Only grapes grown in the cellar are used, where the wines mature for at least two years before being released to the market. Bottling takes place on site, ensuring a complete supply chain dedicated to the production of top-quality wines.
