Situata a Montescudaio, in Toscana, la cantina Fontemorsi vanta una ricca tradizione di vinificazione biologica.
The Fontemorsi farm in Montescudaio (Province of Pisa) extends for 23 hectares on the southern side of the Cecina River Valley, between the Tyrrhenian coast and the city of Volterra. This is an area that, thanks to the favorable climate and soil conditions, strongly influenced by the proximity of the sea, has offered an optimal environment for the cultivation of vines for centuries.
The estate, already appreciated for its production of quality wines, was taken over in 2003 by Laura Berlucchi who entrusted its management to the agronomist Francesco Benasaglio and his wife Mariavittoria Facchinelli Mazzoleni, in partnership with Carlo Sanvitale, a Florentine architect and Roberto Ligasacchi, an entrepreneur from Lucca.
Most of the 10 hectares of vineyards have been renewed with dense plantings of 7,200 vines per hectare and clones
fruit of the evolution of specialized nursery, obtaining a marked qualitative leap compared to the planting distances and traditional clones; the experience gained on the old vineyards, however, has confirmed that the Sangiovese trained in Guyot is the vine that best expresses the viticultural vocation of the place. We have chosen a fossil shell, like those that still emerge abundantly in our land, as a company brand, to remember the close link between these hills and the sea that once submerged them and that has strongly determined their viticultural aptitude.
Fontemorsi produces three red wines, a rosé wine and a white wine. The grape of choice is Sangiovese, vinified pure or in blends with Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.
Thanks to the favorable soil and climate conditions and with the aim of producing wines that have personality and territorial recognition, we have adhered to the EEC Regulation 2092/91 which dictates the rules of organic viticulture, assisted by the Experimental Station for Sustainable Viticulture of Dr. Ruggero Mazzilli. All the company's production is certified organic by the Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification (ICEA)
In the cellar we avail ourselves of the precious collaboration of the Tuscan oenologist Paolo Salvi, recognized among the greatest experts on Sangiovese.
