Adega Cooperativa De Palmela: A Rich Heritage

Established in 1955 as Adega Cooperativa da Região do Moscatel de Setúbal, this winery began operations in 1958. It has played a vital role in the agricultural development of the region, where vineyards and wines hold significant historical value. Starting with just 50 members and a production capacity of 1.5 million liters, Adega Cooperativa de Palmela has grown to over 300 members and produces more than 8 million liters annually. The winery continuously updates its manufacturing and bottling technologies, ensuring quality and safety for consumers while benefiting its members.

The Wine Growing Region of Palmela

Located in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, Palmela features sandy plains that are ideal for viticulture. This region is part of the Setúbal-Costa Azul tourist area, with portions situated within the Sado Estuary nature reserve and the Natural Park of Arrábida. The temperate climate, influenced by both Mediterranean and Atlantic conditions, supports a diverse range of grape varieties. We recently visited the winery of the Adega de Palmela cooperative in Portugal and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The excursion was held at a high level and our guide Teresa left the greatest impression. From the first minute she immersed us in the history and peculiarities of the region's wine culture! You could literally feel her deep love for her work and the genuine sincerity with which she spoke about all the intricacies of wine production! The organization of the excursion was excellent: we were shown the entire process from transporting the grapes to bottling the finished wine, and then there was an interesting tasting. The wines of the Adega de Palmela winery impressed with the variety of tastes and aromas, and Teresa professionally explained the properties of each drink and gave valuable recommendations for combining it with different dishes. The overall impression is a harmonious combination of traditions, modern technologies and real Portuguese hospitality! We sincerely thank Tereza for the attention, warm atmosphere and unforgettable emotions! If you are in Portugal, be sure to visit “Adega de Palmela” and don’t miss the opportunity to listen to a guided tour by a wonderful guide!
