A Legacy of Winemaking in Setúbal Peninsula
The Legacy of ASL Tomé
ASL Tomé is a historic winery located in Pinhal Novo, Portugal, with roots tracing back to the 1940s. Originally named ‘Américo de Sousa Lopes & Herdeiros’ in 1953, the winery adopted its current name in 1992. Today, the fifth generation of the family, led by Carlos and Nuno Branco, has modernized the facilities since 2002, introducing the first range of Cascalheira regional wines.
Wine House and Vineyards
Quinta da Cascalheira, the heart of ASL Tomé, has been in the same family for five generations. This estate is home to some of the oldest vineyards in the Setúbal Peninsula, featuring an ancient cellar where wines are crafted and bottled. The winery manages eight vineyard plots on sandy soils in the municipality of Palmela, cultivating grape varieties such as Castelão, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscatel, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, and Touriga Franca.
Wines of ASL Tomé
ASL Tomé specializes in four distinct wine types: Castellan, Syrah, and two unique blends known as 3 Varieties and C+S. The Castellan showcases a classic profile, crafted using traditional methods of the Setúbal Peninsula, with maceration in stainless steel vats and a brief aging in American oak barrels. The 3 Varieties blend offers a rich and dense profile, combining Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Castelão, creating a harmonious balance between local and international grape varieties.
