Experience Exceptional Wines from the Setúbal Peninsula
Casa Ermelinda Freitas Winery: A Commitment to Quality
Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas, Casa Ermelinda Freitas Vinhos has a rich history in winemaking. After Deonilde, Germana Freitas took over, followed by Ermelinda Freitas, who led the winery after the passing of her husband, Manuel João de Freitas.
From the start, the winery has prioritized the quality of its vineyards and wines.
Initially, the winery produced and sold unbranded wines in bulk. It wasn't until 1997, under the leadership of Ermelinda and her daughter Leonor, that they began crafting their own branded wines. The first bottled wine was the red “Terras do Pó tinto,” marking a new chapter in their winemaking journey.
A Diverse Selection of Wine Styles
Leonor Freitas inherited 60 hectares of vineyards primarily planted with Castelão and Fernão Pires grapes in Fernando Pó, Palmela. To enhance the winery's offerings, she introduced a variety of grape types. Today, Casa Ermelinda Freitas Vinhos spans 440 hectares, cultivating an impressive array of grapes, including Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Gewurztraminer, Carménère, Trincadeira, Alvarinho, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdelho.
