Discover Jesus Chiappella
The Chiappella family came to Uruguay from Italy’s Piemonte in 1926 and started the story of the winery. In 1959, the Chiappella family acquired the property where the winery is present. Located in Cuchilla de Rocha in Uruguay’s Canelones, their vineyards are right next to the winery. Jesus Chiappella took over in 1988 and reconverted the winery by adding modern techniques and growing international grape varieties. Over the years, their distinct wines have led them to export wines to many countries, including Russia, USA, Mexico, etc. Modern infrastructure and a combination of traditional methods and advanced technology allow them to produce wines with care. They use American and French oak barrels to age wines and give them a balanced, fruity taste and intense aroma. Bottling and packaging are mostly done manually.
Wines of Jesus Chiappella
The 40 hectares of their vineyards are around 30 km away from Montevideo. The Rio de la Plata has a good influence on the soil and climate of the region, making it perfect for the cultivation of vines. Most of their strains come from France and Italy, and the vineyards were replanted in the 90s. The main grape varietals grown here are Tannat, Albarino, Marselan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato Giallo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Moscatel de Hamburgo, and Alicante Bouchet. All the work in the vineyards is supervised by Juan Chiappella and his son Juan Martin. Sustainability is a priority for them to maintain biodiversity in the ecosystem and protect the health of their vineyards for future generations.
