1998 was when the first vineyard was planted on Waiheke Island and 2002 their very first vintage of Chardonnay was produced. With the vision to hand-craft outstanding wines from the highest quality fruit, grown in small lot vineyards, they were off to a great start. And in all honesty, they haven’t looked back since. They gradually added more varietals to their portfolio; and in 2007, opened the doors to their stunning venue on Waiheke Island including the winery, cellar door, private event rooms and an award-winning dining room.

What’s more: an impressive private art collection from acclaimed New Zealand artists is on permanent display throughout the building of the winery!

The focus really begins in the vineyard, naturally, where the vines are closely managed and nurtured to ensure the highest quality fruit expressive of the terroir. The cool sea breezes during the day, coupled with the insulating effect of the sea at night, results in a climate where diurnal temperature variation is minimized. And the varieties of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay in Marlborough and Pinot Gris, Viognier, Marsanne, Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec in Waiheke are truly the product of their love and care. Cable Bay Vineyards truly has cultivated an enviable reputation for their stunning selection of red, white and rosé wines, with an unrelenting focus on quality and service.
