The Family Behind the Wines
Founded by Raimon and Carme Castellví Figuerola, Cal Bessó Winery is a proud addition to the Celler de l’Encastell family in Porrera. The winery began production in 2015, sourcing grapes from 7 hectares of vineyards owned by partner Jaume Vallès. Currently, Cal Bessó produces around 25,000 bottles annually, with plans to increase this to 50,000 bottles in the coming years.
The Unique Vineyards
Cal Bessó's vineyards are divided into two distinct plots: Les Routes and La Presa. The oldest vines, aged between 60 and 70 years, thrive in Les Routes, where the soil is rich in limestone, clay, and dolomites. This mineral diversity contributes to the unique flavor profiles of the wines. In contrast, La Presa features younger vines, carefully arranged to maximize the area's mineral benefits. This combination of old and young vines allows the winery to produce a variety of exceptional wines.
Cherries and Wines
In addition to vineyards, the Cal Bessó estate boasts a grove of cherry trees, lovingly tended by Raimon’s father. These trees yield high-quality cherries, which are stored in the manor house and distributed to top markets in Barcelona. In honor of his father, Raimon has named the first red wine from Cal Bessó, THE CHERRY, celebrating the estate's rich agricultural heritage.
