Cantine del Notaio, a Winery Nestled in the Green Heart of Basilicata
Cantine del Notaio is located in the heart of Basilicata, a beautiful region surrounded by forests and mountains in southern Italy. It covers a land of 40 hectares across the five provinces of Vulture for the production of many award-winning wines of the winery. The history of the Giuratrabocchetti winemaking family is ancient and it passed over generation after generation. The Cantine del Notaio Winery was established in 1998 by Gerardo, a graduate in Agricultural Sciences. Today, along with his wife, Marcella, manages the operations in the winery, preserving their family traditions. Luigi Moio, a professor of Oenology at the University of Naples, also helps Gerardo at Cantine del Notaio in various wine production phases creating an extraordinary taste to the wines.
Top-Class Wines and Olive Oil at Cantine del Notaio
Casana, the vineyard of Cantine del Notaio, is located in Maschito province. Some of the grape plants in the vineyards are from 1960, while the others are cultivated in 2003. Gerardo grows a wide range of vines, primarily Aglianico del Vulture. Along with that, he cultivates rich-quality Moscato, Malvasia, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon. Some part of the cultivating land is dedicated to the olive plantation. The olive groves varieties include Rotondella and Ogliarola del Vulture. With his precious grapes and olives, Gerardo produces top-class red, white and rose wines, together with high-class dessert, sparkling, fortified wines, and delicious extra virgin olive oil.
Renovation of the Cellar
The cellar of the winery has been renovated, and it is packed with large-sized wooden oak barrels and barriques for refinement and proper aging of the wines. The pressing of the grapes take place in vats and millstones, along with big-sized tanks for fermentation.
