Terra dei Re: Nestled Near Scenic Lakes
Located in the picturesque region of Basilicata, Terra dei Re Winery is situated in the heart of Aglianico del Vulture. Surrounded by lush hills and forests, this winery is just a short drive from the stunning Lakes Monticchio. The vineyards cover 31 hectares across Barile, Rapolla, Melfi, and Rionero, ideal for producing exceptional Aglianico del Vulture DOC wines, including Piano di Carro, Macarico, Colignelli, and Calata Delle Brecce. Most of the vines are around 40 years old, with a density of approximately 9,000 plants per hectare. In addition to Aglianico, the Leone brothers cultivate fruity Pinot Nero and Malvasia Bianca.
A Legacy of Winemaking
Terra dei Re Winery has a rich history, founded by Giuseppe Nigro, the grandfather of the current owners, the Leone brothers, in the mid-19th century. The winery faced challenges in the mid-20th century, leading to a temporary closure due to economic difficulties in the wine industry. However, the Leone brothers' mother held onto the hope that her sons would revive the family tradition. In 2000, they fulfilled that dream by reestablishing the Terra dei Re Winery.
Delight in Basilicata's Dessert Wines
The winery's modern cellar spans four hectares in the beautiful province of Rionero in Vulture, where traditional winemaking meets innovative technology. Terra dei Re produces high-quality red and white wines, along with sweet dessert and sparkling wines, all under the Basilicata DOCG, DOC, and IGP classifications. The aging process for these exquisite wines occurs in oak barrels and barriques, enhancing their rich flavors and aromas.
