The Domaine de Castell-Reynoard is a charming family estate spanning 6 hectares in the picturesque commune of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, nestled within the Cadière d’Azur of Provence. This winery is part of the esteemed Bandol appellation, with a cellar that has stood since 1892, located near a beautiful mansion dating back to 1850.

A Legacy of Family Winemaking

For generations, the Castell family has nurtured this vineyard, producing limited quantities of natural wines through sustainable practices. Their wines reflect a deep respect for the sun-drenched landscape and its unique clay-limestone terroir. The winery is known for crafting exquisite cuvées that are both rare and consistently high in quality, thanks to a rich tradition of winemaking.

Crafting Unique Wines

Castell-Reynoard offers a diverse range of wines, including whites, rosés, and reds. Each variety undergoes maceration for periods ranging from a few hours to five weeks, allowing for a careful extraction of flavors that showcase the vineyard's natural beauty. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts found on the grapes, ensuring authentic flavors. To enhance the wine's character, it is aged in oak barrels or tanks, providing depth and complexity.

Commitment to Biodiversity

Julien Castell, who took over the family winery in 2009, is dedicated to maintaining a self-sustaining ecosystem within the vineyard. Inspired by his ancestors, he focuses on fostering biodiversity among wildlife and plants. This approach aims to produce healthy grapes with minimal human intervention, preserving the natural balance of the vines and terroir.

Excellent evening tasting of cheese boards, charcuterie, homemade sorbets and wines (almost 100 references, including those from the estate that I particularly recommend). It's simple, friendly, natural and a great welcome from Julien Castell.

In July 2022, I had the pleasure of going on a trip to the magnificent vineyard of Provence with my dear classmates. After visiting some wineries that cultivated the vines in a more conventional way, I wanted to take them to a more confidential place. Coming from Provence and partly raised in Bandol, this step was essential. Thanks to Google, I discovered Julien Castell and his Castell-Reynoard estate. Julien embodies research, experimentation, sharing and advice. He lives his profession to the fullest and brings this exceptional estate to life by producing authentic wines and a flourishing biodiversity. The tasting of his simply magnificent wines was accompanied by exciting and enriching conversations. We were all delighted and since that day, Julien has been one of my favorite winemakers. The bottles can be enjoyed tomorrow or carefully kept for several years, for unforgettable moments together. What is certain is that Julien has the gift of telling a story through his wines, a story that you will discover at each tasting.

Very friendly and authentic winegrower and market gardener/cook. An approach that aims to be truly virtuous, local, and respectful of the environment. A great setting, and a magnificent quality of wine (the rosé is just crazy!) and food. I absolutely recommend in every way!

Entering the car park, after seeing the signs "have you booked?" (no hello) "uh no we saw the signs and..." "well he's not there" "OK well we'll go then..." "yes" I'm leaving five stars to support the businesses, but ma'am if you're reading this message: blah blah welcome huh!
