Located just 30 kilometers from Bordeaux in Bayon-sur-Gironde, Château de Côts is a charming winery run by the Bergon family since 1930. With a commitment to organic winemaking for over 15 years, the estate is now under the guidance of Remi Bergon, who has returned after gaining valuable experience abroad. The family follows the FNIVAB guidelines to maintain their organic certification, producing wines that are vibrant and full of character.

Winemaking and Grape Varieties at Château de Côts

Spanning 20 hectares, the vineyard produces around 80,000 bottles of traditional vintage (Cuvée Tradition) and 10,000 bottles of superior vintage (Cuvée Prestige). The vineyard is primarily planted with Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), and Malbec (15%). The winemaking process involves macerating the grapes for 5–6 weeks, followed by maturation in a combination of vats and oak barrels. This careful approach results in highly regarded red wines that showcase rich fruit flavors and spicy notes.

Proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and Its Influence

Château de Côts is situated in the Côtes de Bourg appellation, one of the few wineries that still blends with Malbec. The nearby Atlantic Ocean significantly influences the terroir, enhancing the unique characteristics of the region.
