The History of the Château de la Greffière
The history of Château de la Greffière traces back to 1585. In 1924, the Greuzard Family acquired the estate and often restores it. With a location near the village of La Roche Vineuse, in Mâconnais, in the south of Burgundy the estate has been creating excellent Burgundian wines for almost one hundred years.
Winemaking at Château de la Greffière
Château de la Greffière has planted Chardonnay, Aligoté, Pinot Noir, and Gamay. White wine grapes are sent directly to the pneumatic press, which is used to compress the grapes for three hours to extract the juice. The juices are then sent to stainless steel tanks, they are filtered before being transfered to oak barrels in the vaulted cellar. Then, alcoholic fermentation starts as sugars get transformed into alcohol and aromas are revealed. For the red wine, winemakers send the grapes directly to a sorting table, the best bunches are chosen for vinification and the others will not be used. The grapes are then placed into stainless steel tanks for the maceration stage. This allows good extraction of color and tannins. Each vintage at Château de la Greffière is produced with a great passion and experience, this creates a unique palette of aromas and a rich character in the wines.
