An Organic Estate Winery you are sure to enjoy
How it All Started
In 1977, Marie Claude and Claude Rivière bought their first hectare of vines, planted with Merlot, in Pomerol, called Château la Loubière. Over time, more parcels of vines were added in the Toulifaut, Plince and Taillefer areas, which occupy gravelly soil, with a presence of in the soil ‘crasses de fer’.
The Name
In 1994 the Rivière family bought La Croix Taillefer from the Langlet-Rietsch family. The ‘La Croix’ part of its Domaine name comes from the marker the new owners found in the vineyards and which delimited the territory of the commandery of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. Time has erased the date written on this marker: 1090, which makes this vineyard one of the oldest in all of Bordeaux.
The Best Vintages
The domain’s Merlot vines are without a doubt among the oldest in the entire Bordeaux region. Certain sections boast an age of 60 years. The Château La Croix Taillefer wine has been organic since 2003.
