Vineyards of Cimarelli Winery

Spanning 8 hectares, the Cimarelli vineyards are situated at an elevation of 300 to 400 meters in the renowned Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico region. The "Classico" designation signifies a smaller area with a rich history of Verdicchio grape cultivation. The family cultivates a selection of grapes, including Verdicchio, Montepulciano, and Sangiovese, which are used to create their signature wines. Quintessential Limited Production, Family Winery

Tommaso is one of the younger generation of the Cimarelli winery, and he conducted our tour and tasting. The home and winery overlooks about 4 hectares of the total 10 upon which they grow their grapes (Verdicchio on the slope by the winery and Verdicchio and Montepulciano on the slopes in a nearby district). The rolling hills and grapevines could have come right out of a movie. Tommaso was utterly charming and extremely patient with our virtual lack of Italian. We tried 5 wines each wonderful articulations of the grape, one of which--the riserva--was just stunningly complex. We would up buying several cases. Tommaso was eager to help us with shipping to the US, but because these wines are incredibly priced for the value, shipping cost more than the wines. Don't worry, we figured out what to do, but if you want to find a great white wine that you absolutely will not find in the US, you should put the Cimarelli Winery on your list.
