A Personal Experience at Flat Rock Cellars

Founded in 1999, Flat Rock Cellars is nestled on the picturesque Jordan Beach section of the Niagara Escarpment. This winery is set on a gently rolling hill surrounded by lush vineyards, offering breathtaking views of the Peninsula across Lake Ontario, all the way to Toronto. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings and participate in educational programs about winemaking. The winery is committed to two core principles: crafting exceptional wines and providing a memorable experience for every guest.

Ideal Conditions for Viticulture

Flat Rock Cellars benefits from the rich soil and favorable climate of the Twenty Mile Bench, making it an ideal location for grape cultivation. The stunning landscape is reminiscent of the renowned vineyards of Burgundy. The winery primarily grows Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, with a smaller area dedicated to Gewurztraminer. These grape varieties thrive in the cool climate of the Niagara Peninsula, which enhances their flavor profiles. The winery practices handpicking of grapes, progressive viticulture, and maintains low yields, all of which are key components of their sustainable winemaking philosophy.

A Commitment to Sustainability

The winery features a striking glass-encased, hexagonal structure that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Utilizing a gravity-flow design and state-of-the-art winemaking equipment, Flat Rock Cellars combines traditional techniques with modern innovations to produce natural organic wines. After fermentation, the wines are aged to develop their unique character. The winery produces a diverse range of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines, each with distinct flavors and aromas. A visit to Flat Rock Cellars promises a unique and personal experience for all wine enthusiasts.

Came to the Niagara region today specifically for the Flat Rock warehouse sale. Picked up some great wine for some great prices. We've been there before but forgot how beautiful the location is. Sitting in the tasting room with a glass in hand, looking out over the vineyards, Lake Ontario, and on a good day, the Toronto skyline - pretty darn relaxing. Strongly recommend.

Great selection of wines including dry reds. The grounds were spectacular and you can see downtown Toronto in the distance.

This would be a great wine club to join if we lived in Canada. Flat Rock Cellars was on our “must do” list last week. We arrived on Fri afternoon to sip a few specific wines if a bottle was open. Had a feeling that these award winning wines were special, and we appreciated the sustainable practices. Tate was very helpful and suggested a couple more wines for us to sip. WOW! Very tasty wines - rich flavors. Bought two bottles - foundation Riesling and the award winning Rusty Shed Chardonnay. We brought both of these bottles home to savor. The vineyards are beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for making great wines.

What an incredible day in wine country at Flat Rock Cellars with great friends and family ! The tour and tasting, led by the remarkable Tate, was truly inspiring. We savored three exquisite wines, beginning with a Pinot Noir, followed by a delightful Chardonnay, and ending with a truly divine Riesling that was simply sublime. The winery was breathtaking, and the panoramic view from the observatory, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony, was nothing short of spectacular. A must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts, Flat Rock Cellars is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!🍷🍷🍷

We had a lovely experience at Flat Rock Cellars with or server Tate. First the view was spectacular and the building was really cooler with floor to ceiling windows showing off the vineyards and even the Toronto Skyline across the lake. The tasting was reasonably priced (4 wines for $20) with a nice variety of options. We tasted sparking, rose, Riesling, and their Chardonnay. We were pleasantly surprised with the rose and it was our favorite! Although I have a personal aversion for Chardonnay I tasted theirs and completely understood the award winning level it has achieved. Tate gave us a tour of their new seating area available to reserve for events (up to 50 people) or overflow tasting space in the busy season. We also saw the wine making area where he explained the gravity style they make the wine in. Overall a great experience. Definitely a must stop on your Ontario wine tour.
