Pennachetti Winery, Creating Elegant and Unique Wines in Ontario
The Pennachetti Family grasped the potential of the Beamsville Bench for grape growing in the mid-1970s and established the Cave Spring Vineyard not long after. They planted their first grapes at their vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. The winery is now are one of Canada’s highly respected wineries creating elegant and unique fresh climate wines in Ontario. The family bought their first farmland in 1973 to focus on planting European grape varieties and using the grapes to make distinct wines. They decided to focus on using a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. Len partnered with the famous winemaker, Angelo Pavan, to set up their cellar, and his brothers and wife handle the business aspects of the winery.
With a tradition of three generations and proper guidance by the staff, Pennachetti Winery has become one of the top Riesling producers in North America.
Advanced Viticulture Techniques
The unique soil and typical microclimate make the Beamsville Bench vineyards perfect for vines’ growth and cultivation. The workers use advanced viticulture techniques to ensure the health of their vines, proper ripening, and high-quality grapes in their vineyards. Almost 80% of their grapes come from their family vineyards.
Certified Sustainable Winery
The main types of grapes grown at Pennachetti Winery include Riesling, Chardonnay, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, and Gewurtztraminer. After handpicking, the best grapes are used to make their famous red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines. The winery is certified sustainable, and there is minimal intervention in the cellars and vineyards that helps keep the natural flavors and aromas of the wines intact.
