Gillmore Winery: Crafting Distinctive Wines in Loncomilla Valley

Founded in 1990 by Francisco Gillmore, Gillmore Winery is a family-owned estate that has become a hallmark of quality in the Loncomilla Valley. Together with his daughter Daniella and son-in-law Andres Sanchez, Francisco has cultivated a unique project that gives Gillmore wines their signature character. Nestled in the coastal dry area of the Maule Valley, the winery is surrounded by native trees and diverse Chilean wildlife, creating a picturesque setting for wine production.

Winery Philosophy

At Gillmore Winery, the focus is on crafting high-quality wines that showcase the true potential of Chilean viticulture. The wines are celebrated for their concentrated aromas and flavors, appealing to a wide range of wine enthusiasts. Outstanding grapes are essential for exceptional wines. The winery prioritizes its Tabontinaja vineyards, where grapes are meticulously cared for and harvested by hand, ensuring a skilled and thoughtful production process.

A Diverse Range of Varietals

Gillmore Winery cultivates a variety of grape types in its Tabontinaja vineyards, including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Carignan, Malbec, and Syrah. These grapes are grafted onto century-old mission vine rootstock, which enhances the wines' character and reflects the unique terroir of the region. The winemaking team carefully studies each varietal, harvesting and fermenting them individually to create wines of exceptional quality.

Located on the road to Constitución, km 20. Its 100-year-old vines give history to the place. They have a large sales room. They have a mini zoo with emus, pudus, swans, ducks and others. They have a hotel and a wind center. Wines with hints of ripe fruit, minerals and sweeter in the case of rosé.

We had a wonderful tour at Vina Gillmore in February of 2024 with Daniella, the daughter of the founder. We communicated with her via email to set up the tour ahead of time. Unlike other reviewers have said, the tour was in English. Daniella spoke excellent English, and shared a lot about the winery, the vineyards, and the history of the place. The wines were fantastic as well. I hope they are able to open their hotel again (a COVID casualty), as it would have been a lovely place to stay.

A beautiful, quiet place; there isn't much to see as not everything is open for use yet.
