Klet Brda Winery, Established in 1957 Under the Vast Dobrovo Castle
The Klet Brda winery is present in westernmost Slovenia’s Brda region between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps. The mild Mediterranean climate allows the production of quality wines and olive oil. The winery was established in 1957, directly under the vast Dobrovo Castle. The vineyards were replanted, and it helped to elevate Brda among the best wine regions of the world. The cellar is around 15 meters below the ground and holds stainless steel tanks and Slovanian oak barrels. The annual production is about 8 million litres of wine, and their oldest collection is the 1957 Rebula. The winery unites 400 families, who have been working together for over fifty years and have turned local winemaking into a success story.
Organic and Sustainable Farming
The unique soils, microclimate and rainfall, make the region perfect for viticulture. The most famous grape of the Brda region is the Rebula and is mainly used for their wines. The winery introduced organic and sustainable farming in their estate to protect the nature and the health of their vineyards. The vineyards cover an area of 1000 hectares and are planted on steep slopes, and therefore most of the work here is done manually. Apart from Rebula, the other grapes which grow here are Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignonasse, Syrah, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The best grapes are handpicked and processed to make their famous red, white, rose, sparkling and dessert wines. The guiding principle in their day-to-day activities is a deep respect for nature and its cycles, as they believe that superior quality is born in the vineyards.
