Expereince Wine Culture from South Africa
Story of the Winery
Johannes Christiaan Rabe (surname later changed to Rabie) came from the German city of Leipzig in 1723, he settled in our beautiful Nuy valley and started farming here. Although he didn’t initially farm with grapes, his grandson was the first person to introduce grape farming and winemaking to the area in 1820 and named his new wine farm “Leipzig” in honor of the city that his grandfather left so many years before in search of a better life.
Generations of Winemaking
Today, we as 9th generation descendants of Johannes Christiaan are passionate about the history of the farm, making bespoke blends and bottling only the finest single cultivar wines. We operate a modern cellar, where we source only the best hand-picked grapes to create our beautiful wines. By exporting some of our wines to the German market, we would like to think that we are completing a 300-year circle by sending back the fruits of Johannes Christiaan’s labor as proof that he did find a better life in South Africa.Top reviews
