Optima Winery- Exceptional Winemaking the Russian River Valley
Optima Winery is located in the center of Healdsburg, California, and benefits from their exceptional and distinct terroir. Winemaker Michael Duffy dreamt of owning a winery and in 1980 took a job as assistant winemaker while quickly finishing his education. In 1989, he worked alongside renowned winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, at Field Stone Winery to perfect his craft.
Vineyards in the Valley
Optima Winery sources its grapes from several producers and vineyards throughout the region. Bermudes, Duffy, Mounts, Bocci, and Bavarian Lion are among the top vineyards from which Michael Duffy purchases fruit. The region is perfect for the cultivation of vines due to optimal rainfall, soil, and sun. He aims to combine practicality with art to produce quality wines that show the characteristics of the Russian River Valley. Extra care is taken to preserve the natural taste and aroma of his wines.
Unique Aura of the Wines at Optima
The winemakers handpick the best blocks of vines and pick the best grapes for further processing. Workers sort the grapes by hand and punch them down to extract all the juice and flavors. The aging of wines at Optima Winery takes place in French oak barrels to impart richness and integration of flavors to the wines. The main grapes used in wine production are Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The best grapes go into the production of their high-quality red, white, and rosé wines.
