Orbelia winery: at the foot of Belasitsa Mountain
The beautiful Orbelia Winery is situated in the Melnik region within the Struma Valley in Bulgaria. The winery sits at the foot of the Belasitsa Mountain next to the picturesque village of Kolarovo. Orbelia first opened its doors in 2013 and to date is the most modern winery in the region, using only the best in technology in their laboratory and wine making equipment.
The vision of the winery is to preserve local wine making traditions
Keeping the Bulgarian culture a life
In doing so, the interior of the winery is in keeping with Bulgarian life and culture. The wine makers at Orbelia believe that love, emotion and passion are all felt in every sip of wine and should therefore be brought into every step of the wine making process. The grapes are grown in maroon, diluvial and alluvial soils which provide the most perfect conditions for their development. The harvesting of the grapes is one of the most significant events in the Melnik Region. Before this can take place, the ripening of the grapes is carefully monitored so that they all reach optimal maturity. After this, grapes are picked by hand and only the healthiest ones used.
Do not miss a tasting at site
The natural mountain cool temperatures and breezes are used to cool the grapes before the fermentation process can begin. Inside the fermentation vessels, the grapes are left to turn into excellent wine. To ensure the high quality of the wine, the fermenters that are used do not have a mechanical impact on the grapes or the wine. The wines produced on the winery that cannot be missed are the Via Aristotelis White Blend 2019 and the Orbelia Rose Melnik 2019.
