A remarkable fusion of a national museum and an underground winery featuring over 100 meters of tunnels. Experience wine crafted from a grape variety unique to the Struma Valley region.

A Wine Legacy

The old Melnik wine holds many secrets, particularly in its preparation and fermentation methods. Crafting wine is a cherished tradition, passed down through generations. The timing of the wine's flow is crucial; it should emerge from the barrel with a vibrant sparkle. To enhance its flavor, a touch of residual sugar is retained, resulting in a smoother, more harmonious taste that preserves the distinctive fruity aroma of the grape variety.

Unique Terroir

The Struma Valley is renowned for its unique climate and soil, which contribute to the exceptional quality of the wines produced here. The local grape varieties thrive in this environment, offering wine lovers a taste that is truly representative of the region.

Visitor Experience

At Kordopul House, visitors can enjoy guided tours of the underground tunnels and learn about the winemaking process. The combination of history and modern techniques makes this winery a must-visit for anyone interested in Bulgarian wine culture.

The mansion was built in 1754 in Meleniko, Bulgaria. It is the largest Renaissance house in the Balkans. A mix of Venetian and Ottoman architecture. In the basement there is a wine cellar dug into the rock. 300 tons of wine. It belonged to the well-known merchant Manolis Kordopoulos. He sold wines all over Europe, mainly in Venice and Paris. Wine was always present on the tables of the Bulgarian Khans, Boyars, Venetian Doges, French Dukes, Austrian barons and lords.

The Kordopul House is the largest preserved Renaissance house in the Balkan Peninsula. Its history is interesting to see and read. However, don’t be fooled into buying wine from its cellar. You can do much better on the streets of Melnik.
