The town of Ptuj, with its rich history, has been a center for winemaking since before Roman times, around 15-16 B.C. The steep slopes of the Štajerska Slovenia wine district have long been home to vineyards, as evidenced by the discovery of Roman amphorae and jars during archaeological excavations. This region has a deep-rooted tradition of wine production that continues to thrive today.

The terroir of this wine region is diverse, situated on the sunny southeastern slopes of the Alps. The soil primarily consists of clay and gravel, with marl in the lower layers. The subpannonian climate, characterized by thermal inversion and Mediterranean influences, creates ideal conditions for grape growing. With elevations reaching up to 400 meters, the hills provide a perfect environment for ripening grapes, making this area one of the best in the world for viticulture.
