The Silver Wines Story
Silver Wines is a unique venture founded by Benjamin Silver, a former veterinarian from Massachusetts with a passion for Italian culture. His journey into winemaking began in 1993 while working at Chicama Vineyards in Martha’s Vineyard. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree, Benjamin secured a lab technician internship at Zaca Mesa Winery in Santa Barbara County during the harvest season. His dedication and talent led to a full-time position as a winemaker’s assistant, where he honed his skills. By 1998, he became the head winemaker, shaping the future of Silver Wines.
The Wines of Benjamin Silver
In the late 1990s, Benjamin began experimenting with various grape varietals, including Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Nebbiolo. This experimentation culminated in the launch of his signature Silver label wines in 2000. Today, Silver Wines produces small batches of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Nebbiolo, and two proprietary blends: Saviezza and I Tre Figli. In 2014, a new Bordelais-style blend received critical acclaim. All grapes are sourced from Santa Barbara County, reflecting the region's unique terroir. Benjamin’s winemaking philosophy centers on preserving the distinct character of each vineyard, making his wines a true representation of Californian craftsmanship.
