The Very Essence of These Lands of Tenuta Dell’Ugolino
The cantina (one of many Italian words for ’winery’) of Tenuta dell’Ugolino rests in the rolling landscapes just outside the quaint little town of Castelplanio. The winery has the fortunate position of being situated not just in the heartlands of Marche wine region– one of Italy’s still hidden gems – but it is also in the middle of the DOCG Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. It is not a name that rolls off the tongue easily, but it is well worth remembering, because it is here that you will find the most excellent expressions of Verdicchio – the white grape to which Marche owes its fame.
Taking Forward Traditions and Collaborating with Technology
Andrea Petrini is the name of the young winemaker who has put his family’s business on the map with his burning passion for Verdicchio. Begun in the 1980’s, the winery has evolved with the times to modernize its wine making equipment, but without losing the traditional wine making methods that make up their heritage. As with all great winemakers, Andrea knows there is no replacement for attention to detail, and the grapes are carefully selected and monitored in order to attain the purest expression once put into the bottle.
Explore the winery and the wonders of the surrounding landscape
The winery is always happy to welcome wine lovers, show them around the vineyards and taste the wines. It is also a perfect activity to combine with a hike along one of the many beautiful trails leading out into the surrounding hillscape and canyons. Upon request, the winery can arrange to partake of some of the local produce from the areas, a perfect pairing for a well-chilled Verdicchio, especially in the summer heat!
