Montechiaro estate, property of the Griccioli Family since 1720, is located at the top of a picturesque hill, 5 km from Siena with amazing views of the Chianti region. Alessandro, the last generation, has enchanted the centenarian grape heritage, focusing on Sangiovese and rare native grapevines This fusion of history, passion and art, supported by an organic philosophy, creates the highest expression of the Siena’s Colli Chianti DOCG. In the historic 1810 cellar, the traditional winemaking process, valorizes our unique marine soil. We believe in an organic and sustainable winemaking which represents the natural culmination of a quest to achieve the greatest expression of the terroir. Respect for nature is the best tool for obtaining grapes rich with life and expressive potential. The balance between humankind and nature is at the heart of wines that have a deep connection to the territory where they are made. Such wines are unique and cannot be reproduced elsewhere.  Our Chianti preserves the classic Tuscan blend including all local grapevines such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, Foglia Tonda and Barsaglina. We valorizes the pure Sangiovese potential in our Chianti Riserva and Supertuscan, coupled with Arteliquida project based on a rare Malvasia Nera single-vineyard and the innovative Arteliquida white Supertuscan, which link autochthonous white varieties with the exotic Viognier and Manzoni Bianco.  2000 native olive trees contributes to create an intense organic evoo. The visit includes the cellar, the historic chapel of the Villa and the original 1950 olive mill, now transformed into a charming tasting room. Four rental Villas with private parking, garden and swimming pool, complete the resort dedicated to hospitality and wine experience. The winery relies on the professionalism of the staff and their constant training, to offer several customized experiences to immerse yourself completely in the territory and in the local food and wine culture such as truffle hunting, vineyards picnic, gourmet Tuscan dinner, horse riding & wine tasting or Chianina experience. The family properties extend to the medieval Castle of Monteriggioni, where the ancient stable of the family palace is transformed into a suggestive wine bar.

From the high-quality Chianti of Tuscany to dessert wines, everything is delicious. You can also see the original illustrations of the labels in the shop. Thanks to the location, at certain times of the year you can go truffle hunting with a cute dog and experience the experience of digging. There are not many wineries where you can enjoy the wonderful experience of riding a horse through the vineyard. I would love to stay overnight next time.

I cannot recommend the Montechiaro Wine Estate highly enough. Our group of 30 recently spent three blissful nights at the Estate, staying at their 4 villas (rented through AirBnb). We had struggled to find one property large enough for all of us, and ended up loving the privacy that having 4 villas afforded us. The property itself is beautiful, situated in the rolling Tuscan hills. Each villa has a private pool (the view from Villa Capanna is the best), as well as outdoor dining spaces. The covered space in Villa Torre was perfect for hosting large dinners, and it's easy to see why others have chosen to hold their weddings at Montechiaro. The decor in the villas is on the simpler side, but all of the rooms are charming, the beds are comfortable, and the ensuite bathrooms (especially in Villas Torre and Capanna) are surprisingly spacious. The photos available online do not do this property justice at all. The Estate is only about 10-15 minutes from Siena, and while renting a car is recommended, many members in our group were easily able to book taxis to get into Siena and back. I would also highly recommend booking a wine tasting with Montechiaro, as both the wine and olive oil (and snacks) we sampled were divine. The staff at Montechiaro really made our trip memorable. Laura, their wedding and events coordinator, was a dream to work with (and she made planning a trip for 30 as easy as it could have been). She was patient and generous with her time, and I simply could not have organized such a large trip without her help. Alessandro and Stefano, the two Airbnb hosts, were similarly delightful, and were quick to respond to our messages. The two tiny issues that arose were dealt with almost instantly, showing a level of care unmatched by other Airbnb hosts. Start to finish, this was a trip that we will no doubt remember for the rest of our lives.

Was fortunate enough to stay here for a wedding for about a week. This villa was amazing and the perfect place for a small intimate wedding. The property was huge as well as the villa. It comfortably slept 12. The pool was amazing. The wifi wasn’t that great and often didn’t reach the upstairs room. The countryside was beautiful but just know that it is also very remote and there is only one bus that leaves to Siena at around 7 am. You will have to either rent a car, Vespa or call taxis which can be expensive. You could also bike but I don’t think walking is a realistic option. It was a great location to go see all the small medieval towns around the area.
