Winemaking Dreams in Montalcino

At Sanlorenzo, the essence of winemaking is rooted in dreams and dedication. This winery embodies the rich traditions of Montalcino, renowned for its exceptional Brunello wine. Sanlorenzo harmonizes time-honored practices with modern technology and research, ensuring authenticity and a deep respect for the land. The winery's commitment to quality is reflected in its outstanding wines and the genuine relationships fostered within the community.

A Rich History in Tuscany

Sanlorenzo's story began in the late 19th century when Lorenzo Ferretti purchased land in Rogarelli, near Montalcino. He raised a family of seven children in a farmhouse that soon became too small. In 1950, his grandson Guido expanded the family legacy by acquiring additional land from the Argiano estate, naming it Sanlorenzo in honor of their grandfather.

In 1972, Fiorella married Paolo Ciolfi, bringing new energy to Sanlorenzo. They focused on livestock while also planting vineyards, although the grapes were initially sold to other wineries. This dual approach laid the groundwork for future growth.

Sanlorenzo: A Family Legacy

Paolo and Fiorella had three children: Luciano, Luciana, and Luca. After pursuing their studies, Luciano worked at a Montalcino winery, while Luciana married and moved to Cinigiano. In 1997, Luciano returned to Sanlorenzo, inspired by the burgeoning Brunello market. He planted five hectares of new vineyards, and by 2000, the farm transitioned into a fully operational winery, producing its first wine in 2003. The family legacy continued when Luciana returned to Sanlorenzo in 2016, following the passing of their beloved grandfather Bramante at the age of 101.

An amazing visit to a genuin family Brunello estate with splendid wines and hospitality. A visit that that made us feel special, and it was! Big thanks to Ivan and Luciano for having us, and now we will take the wines back to Sweden to enjoy further, but we hope to be back in short. Big recommendation of authentic and great wines! I miei migliori consigli per i loro ottimi vini prodotti con la migliore autenticità e qualità.

Really interesting company in the western part of Montalcino, family run. Excellent wines, an expression of the territory. It is best to call to do the tasting. The new cellar was recently inaugurated.

We went for a wine tasting and tour of the vineyards. The place is beautiful and the tour was great. They only do private tours, so that adds points to the experience. The wines we tasted were amazing. The finger food provided consisted of cheese, salami and rusks with extra virgin olive oil. I can eat and drink this delicious type of food and wine every day. Their brunello is one of a kind. Thank you for the experience!

A fantastic experience. You can feel all the passion and expertise of this winery in proposing wines that are authentic expressions of the changing vintages we have been subjected to in recent years. The tasting in the winery deserves 10/10 as do their wines. Well done

I discovered Sanlorenzo Montalcino together with Luciano Ciolfi, the third generation family owner. Sanlorenzo represents pure tradition, authenticity and respect for hard work. The awareness of its values is expressed in the great wines it produces and in the simplicity of the people behind them ❤️ A vertical tasting with Luciano directly in the wine cellar is a unique opportunity to discover the extraordinary aging potential of Sangiovese, the king of Montalcino, and Brunello, its most prestigious expression 🍷

Wow. We were lucky enough to have Luciano the wine maker showing us around and giving us our tasting. The wines were amazing, just as authentic as the hospitality. If you want an authentic family style wine tasting experience in Tuscany this is a must. Thank you, Luciano for a great time at your family Estate.
