A Rich History in Tuscany
Sanlorenzo's story began in the late 19th century when Lorenzo Ferretti purchased land in Rogarelli, near Montalcino. He raised a family of seven children in a farmhouse that soon became too small. In 1950, his grandson Guido expanded the family legacy by acquiring additional land from the Argiano estate, naming it Sanlorenzo in honor of their grandfather.
In 1972, Fiorella married Paolo Ciolfi, bringing new energy to Sanlorenzo. They focused on livestock while also planting vineyards, although the grapes were initially sold to other wineries. This dual approach laid the groundwork for future growth.
Sanlorenzo: A Family Legacy
Paolo and Fiorella had three children: Luciano, Luciana, and Luca. After pursuing their studies, Luciano worked at a Montalcino winery, while Luciana married and moved to Cinigiano. In 1997, Luciano returned to Sanlorenzo, inspired by the burgeoning Brunello market. He planted five hectares of new vineyards, and by 2000, the farm transitioned into a fully operational winery, producing its first wine in 2003. The family legacy continued when Luciana returned to Sanlorenzo in 2016, following the passing of their beloved grandfather Bramante at the age of 101.
