Overcoming Challenges with Passion

Sara Pérez and René Barbier, a dynamic couple, founded Venus La Universal in the DO Montsant region, a rising star in the world of Spanish wines. Starting from scratch was no easy feat; they faced numerous challenges, including losing grapes before achieving the high-quality vines they desired. Their solution was straightforward: pour their passion, love, and hard work into their craft while respecting and enhancing Mother Nature. The turning point for Venus La Universal came when they embraced organic practices.

Part of the Priorat Project

DOC Priorat, recognized for its exceptional wines, gained its prestigious status in 2006 and continues to gain international acclaim. Both Priorat and Montsant are celebrated for their rich red wines, primarily made from Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena grapes. However, winemakers face significant challenges, including erosion, low biodiversity, and soil degradation. As members of the Priorat Project, Sara and René collaborate with local wineries to promote sustainable practices and tackle these common issues. Their goal is to leave an emotional legacy rather than a carbon footprint.

Exceptional Wines of Venus La Universal

Venus La Universal produces remarkable red, white, and rosé wines from a variety of grapes, including Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Macabeu, Cartoixa, and White Grenache. They utilize natural yeast, steam engines, and are transitioning to photovoltaic energy to reduce their environmental impact. Their wines are categorized into two distinct collections: Venus and Dido, each showcasing unique characteristics that the owners are eager to share during your visit to the winery.

Sometimes places are beautiful, not because of their aesthetic beauty, but because of the beauty of who and how tells it to you. A highly recommended winery to visit, for its wines, but also for its history and above all for its philosophy. Gemma, thank you for your explanations and the time you spent with us. A big hug. Health and strength in the vineyard.

The visit allowed us to learn about the working philosophy of the winery. Gemma has been very kind and didactic.

Venus... Greek goddess who gives name to this wine that we like so much: Venus La Universal 2016. A new vintage to offer a wine that seeks feminine beauty, the earth through a bottle of wine. All very feminine and in harmony they manage to create a gastronomic, fresh and elegant wine. Sara Pérez and René Barbier make this red wine from a selection of grapes collected from different plots. @sara.venus.martinet @renebarbier_mogador_venus Why do we recommend it to you🍷? 1️⃣ For its blend that achieves a perfect balance between the young vineyards of Garnacha and Syrah with the old Cariñena 2️⃣ Due to the presence of ripe black fruit with wild fruits and the expression and intensity of it in the glass. 3️⃣ We loved the spicy aromas: cinnamon, nutmeg... along with roasted coffee, aromatic herbs and forest, a lot of forest... (we like to feel it!!!) 4️⃣ For its elegance and intensity. 5️⃣ It is a balanced wine. We like it because it is fresh, but at the same time it has body. 6️⃣ René and Sara are clear that they want to work their wines according to the principles of ecology and sustainability. It is a respectful wine. 7️⃣ Your €36 is more than justified. 8️⃣ Decant... it tastes better 😊 🥇 Parker: 94 @wine_advocate 🥇 Enterwine: 94 @enterwine 🍇 Type: Red Wine with Aging 🍇 Producer: Venus La Universal @venusuniversal 🍇 D.O.: @domontsant 🍇 Grape: 50% Grenache, 40% Cariñena and 10% Syrah 🍇 Barrel: 20 months 🍇 Graduation: 14.50%
